About the Artist

Eva Gjaltema

The work of Eva Gjaltema explores different contemporary issues, focusing on the notion of identity, memory and time. Specific themes are the female identity, motherhood, power structures within relationships, family and society and environmental concerns. Her subjects are chosen intuitively and originate within personal experiences but are universal issues.

Biography

Eva Gjaltema is a Dutch visual artist who has lived in Berlin since 2012. She has mainly worked with the medium of photography, collage and mixed media, where the photobook also plays an important role. She has a master’s degree in Cultural Studies and a bachelor's degree in Photographic Design from the Royal Academy for the Visual Arts in The Hague. She is currently studying to become an art therapist. She exhibited at Kunstmuseum Den Haag, Frauenmuseum Wiesbaden, Rencontres d’Arles, Jarvis Dooney Gallery Berlin, and Getxophoto Festival.
